Suitable Support
Place the mattress on a rigid support that does not
sink by more than 5 cm when subjected to body weight.
Any mattress that is placed on an unsuitable base will
be prone to early aging, due to poor operating
conditions rather than constructional features. A
suitable support therefore plays an important role in
your mattress' natural life cycle and Is essential to
obtaining good quality sleep. You should consequently
avoid bedsprings made of metal or those that do not
offer uniform surface support. We recommend supports
consisting of wooden staves with rubber shock
absorbers for latex mattresses, as they enhance
performance. It is always best choose a support that
enables the mattress to breathe.
Settling
After a certain period of use, a mattress should start
to show signs of the person who has slept there. In
fact, a good mattress ought to possess the necessary
qualities to be able to mould itself to your body
shape, lightly giving way under the loads applied.
This is the only way to be certain that your mattress
is good for your health and well-being. Slight signs
of settling are a demonstration of these capacities.
This settling does not occur in inflexible and
incorrectly manufactured supports, which force the
body to lie in unnatural and harmful positions.
Useful Accessories
Materassia always recommends using a bed base cover in
order to prevent mattress wear due to contact with the
support, and a mattress cover in order to prevent
staining. Both these accessories also provide
protection against dust. Accessories worked with
Merino wool are extremely important because of their
heat regulating properties. In fact, these accessories
are able to create a sleep environment with the right
microcilmate, with consequent positive effects on the
quality of your sleep.
Optimal Duration
Scientific research and extreme laboratory tests have
shown that ideal mattress duration is around 8 to 10
years max. Once this period of time has passed, all
mattresses
start to progressively loose their hygienic features,
their optimal load bearing capacity and their comfort.
Mattress evaluation standards UNI dimensions and
tolerance
Slight differences in size with respect to the nominal
indications are normal given the entity of the product

settling. All Materassia products are manufactured in
compliance with the size tolerance provisions in UNI
standards
relative to the "mattress evaluation methods".
